The Truth about Sloth
Many of us may heard about word “sloth motion” or “working like sloth”. Yes sloth is another animal that also from the continent South America. This tree dwelling mammal known for its slow movement. This animal mostly found in the forest canopy resting or eating leaves, all over the lowland of tropical forests of south and Central America. They know climbing but remains horizontally most of the time.
With inconspicuous ears, sloth has rounded head and stumpy tails, their legs are long. Only orientation by touch cause their eyesight and hearing are not well. They are helpless in ground until grasping anything because their limbs do not support the body. Depending on species this creatures are 60 to 80 cm long when their weight is about 4 -8 kg.
Sloths are of two families, two toed and three toed. They are surprisingly good swimmer in case. This strange looking creature eat the leaves of cecropia. Babies use to lick their mother’s lips. They have strong, large and multi-chambered stomachs, which has ability to consume strong chemicals.
Some of the sloths are nocturnal (two-toed) and some of them are active during the day. Well their reproduction system varies on species, some are seasonal (brown and pale) and some are throughout the year and some are unknown (pygmy). The infants are born after six months.
This animal spends all the time hanging, sometimes after death. They just use the 10 percent of time in moving. That’s may be the cause while we see someone to be lazy, we called his activity as like sloths.
