Interesting animal Anteater
Have you heard about “Anteater”? This animals are generally love to eat ant and insects or termites, found over trees. The fact is it can easily eat 30,000 ants or termites in a single day!
Anteaters love to eat ants, but they also fed by cocoons and eggs of this insects. They also eat the beetle larva and fruits.
How its look like? The most noticeable things of ant eater is its long snout. But its tongue is much long than that. The tongue can be extended upto two feet. They have tube shaped mouth that has no teeth, only lips. Anteater has large and curved fore claw, using this they tear down the mounds of ant and insects. As their eye-sight is too weak but excellent hearing and smell sense, they have to sniff out the ant mounds. Once they find the prey they start digging in the mounds, they use their long tongue to have the food. They also have a prehensile tail except giant anteaters. most of the anteaters are brown or gray brown in colour.
There are four species of ant eaters: Myrmecophaga tridactyla, Cyclopes didactylus, Tamandua tetradactyla, Tamandua mexicana.
Anteaters mating in autumn, known as fall season. in this case adults males are larger than the females, their fertilization happens without intro-mission. A female remains pregnant for six months, new baby born on summer or spring. After being born, new baby crawl into mother’s back by using its claw. The mother has to carry this baby until it can be self sufficient for itself. It takes almost two years to get maturity.
ant eaters can rest up-to 15-18 hours. Most of the time they are active in finding food. They spend their all the time alone, no groups contain except of mother baby.
Ant eaters are attacked by puma and jaguars. Most of the time they try to fight using their sharp claws and forearm, sometimes they outrun from them.
They are found generally in grasslands, savannas and tropical forests. South America, generally from Belize to Southern Argentina, which is known as geographical range for them.
