MATERIALS AND METHODS
Foraging behave of Apis mellifera was observed in different hours of the day on one square metre when the bee kept on foraging on litchi trees bloomed with flowers. This experiment was carried out at a litchi orchard where a good number of bee colonies were kept by the bee keepers in order to harvest honey of litchi flowers.
Different type of places was selected in order to count the number of bees on one square metre.
Foraging activities were observed and recorded in four different hours of the day i.e. Morning, noon and afternoon and evening. Every time the foragers are counted numbers of bees in one square metre of Litchi flowers. In order to count the number of foraging visitors the following materials were used-
- Hand book.
- Pencil and eraser.
- A One square metre frame etc.
The numbers of visiting bees were counted each time they were getting on the Litchi flower for nectar and pollen loads. This experiment was done by randomized block design. While recoding the data the temperature and humidity were also recorded. The data on humidity were collected from the local weather center.
The data obtain from the experiment was subjected to correlation. Significant difference among different hours of the day was also determined. In case of correlation the r-value is subjected to t-test whether it is different from zero (0). In all statistical analyses, the “ Analysis Toolpak” of MS Excel 2003 was used. Then a Pie diagram and a Histogram are drowned by the data of four times of the day.
